trees, our beautiful trees
this was a happy day: the trees were returned from the nursery. finally! in order to make room for the trucks to haul out those 1’500 tons, we had had to send two beautiful italian oaks (quercus ilex) on vacation, so to speak. they were dug up, put on a truck and driven away to a nursery about three miles from here. same for our “three sisters” and our bonsai larch (all larix decidua). it was hard to see them go…but the joy was all the greater to see them returned after the big dig was done, and the concrete hall structure built. green power, y’all. really missed that living in manhattan for two decades. central park ain’t no substitute. the whole messy concrete and dust vibe was not this family’s thing. but, deferred gratification, to make an omelette ya gotta break some eggs, yadda yadda.
