wired for all eventualities
we kind of made the wiring for the studio up shortly before we began installation. we integrated plans from me (analog audio), adrian (ethernet), the lighting person (christian) and the planner from the electrical utility (rené). then when we thought we were all done and ready to start, gavin (studio designer) casually mentioned on one of our transatlantic planning sessions that we shouldn’t cross audio with electrical wires, or at least not run them in parallel for any significant distance. wha’? oh no!, there were plenty of long parallel runs planned. fortunately we were able to change everything around just in time and run the electrical connections almost entirely separate from the audio. what’s shown here is the last step, the audio wiring. there are 126 analog audio lines between the control room and the various wall boxes and floor islands, and 576 connections on the patch bay. we also have 50 cat 7 ethernet lines, and 24 wireless dmx connections for the lighting. so, much is possible. newsflash, it has all been installed, and it all works. no hum, no hiss. amazing. using high quality wires and connectors helped, and adrian scherer did a fantastic job on the soldering.
